History of Jacob & Thompson
Jacobs & Thompson was established in 1947, making us one of the most experienced foam fabricators in North America. Over the past 70 years, J&T has had the pleasure of working with a diverse group of companies, individuals and raw materials. To get a true sense of what led us to where we are today, one needs to look no further than the many renditions of our Foam Sample Wheel.
Longevity and perseverance comes from experience. Below is a timeline of our history.
Eugene Jacobs Sr. forms Closure Systems in 1940, a distributor of packaging equipment and tapes and dispensers.
Salesman Paul Thompson is hired in 1947 and is made a partner in the firm. Company changes its name to Jacobs & Thompson, October 1947.
Foam fabrication begins in 1959. The company moves to its current location in Toronto, Ontario.
Jacobs & Thompson acquires Procan in 1999 & Thomson Gordon in 2000, two major foam parts competitors.
Jacobs & Thompson acquires Edward Graphic Supplies in 2006, begins supplying foam mounting tapes to the flexographic printing market.
Jacobs & Thompson acquires Sonatex in 2007, offering flame laminated materials.
Sonatex competitors, Globaltex and Laminated Textiles are acquired in 2009.
Industrial Foam Division of E.F. Walter Inc acquired May, 2012.
J&T relocates Sonatex facility from Burlington, ON to Barrie, ON, March 1, 2014.
J&T acquires American National Rubber (ANR) bun splitting division on October 15, 2014.
J&T acquires Engineered Foam Products in Toronto, ON on July 31, 2017.
